Edward (age. 25, Singaporean) is a Pop/Rock (English/C/K/Canton Pop), Orchestral, Choral, Electro, World, Tribal, Film music and live entertainment lover. Edward is also a production and lighting enthusiast from the age of 5. Edward started his keen interest in concert lighting design from a very young age when he was playing with a tungsten-lamp torch light and laser pointer around the kitchen freezer compartment which created fog effects that made the light beam visible and looked like the ones used in concerts he had watched since young. In his pre-schooling days, Concerts he had watched introduced him to various genres of music and productions, namely "Yanni: Tribute Live in Taj Mahal and Forbidden City (1997)" and "Britney Spears: (You Drive Me) Crazy Tour Live in Waikiki Beach, Hawaii (2000)". In 2007, "Songs of the Sea", a multi-sensory water fountain musical spectacular in Sentosa, Singapore, which featured flame throwers, laser projections, water fountains and pyrotechnics caught Edward's interest and he later rewatched the show more than a dozen times and even bought the DVD album as a souvenir and watched the behind-the-scenes footages. Throughout his schooling years, Edward had observed the systems used in his school halls, which mainly used dimmer racks with Parcans, Fresnels, and CYC strip lights. Curious about these systems, Edward researched further with his best friend, Google Search, about different lighting fixtures and theatre systems used in the western houses. Thanks Google! TV broadcasts programmes also had inspired Edward significantly. Edward grew up watching CCTV's Chinese New Year Gala on every CNY eve with his family. Apart from the artists, music numbers, dance numbers, and short plays, Edward would observe in detail the staging, lighting, sound and multimedia systems used in Beijing CCTV Studio 1, which has been used since the Gala's first debut in 1983. Other programmes like 中华情, a weekly weekend outdoor concert broadcast, and Mid-Autumn Festival Gala were Edward's childhood memories. |

In 2014, Edward lost his single mother in a tragedy and suffered from PTSD. "I am a Singer", a multi-season star-studded singing reality-competition programme produced by Mango TV in Changsha, Hunan China, carried Edward through. And what's crazy about the show is it had placed significant emphasis on stage lighting design, sound design, sound engineering, staging, and broadcast quality and was the pioneer in levelling up production value in the Chinese broadcast field.
Between 2012 and 2017, Edward sung as Tenor and Baritone in his junior and senior high choirs under Choral Directors Benedict Goh and Nelson Kwei. Also, Edward had studied music theory and played Piano since 2012.
Concert lighting requires the designer to understand the music that is presented, as looks and cues are heavily inspired from genres, verses, choruses, beats and tempo and executed via lighting mediums. A good concert lighting design would complement and elevate the artist's performance to the next level on the visual front and make the audience's hair stand when its executed well at the right moment. Precision is key.
Edward enjoys music and expresses it through lighting design and programming. He is a fan of Eurovision Song Contest, F1 Grand Prix, Marcus and Martinus, Hans Zimmer, Yanni, BTS and JJ Lin, and he dreams of becoming their concert lighting designer one day :P
